Quick turn-around strategy report supports planning for Cambridge depot site

The client had recently gained planning permission for the redevelopment or a former car park into a Council depot, but with an unexpected condition requiring the provision of an assessment of pollution risk.  With the scheme due to start construction imminently, Yellow Sub Geo were given the brief of fulfilling the requirements of the condition as soon as possible.

The brief was twofold; to undertake an assessment of the risk that the change of use may pose to the shallow groundwater beneath the site and the nearby surface water features, and; to compile a scheme that could be implemented during construction and operation to control such risks.  Drawing upon our experience in compiling land quality and hydrogeological risk assessments, we were able to rapidly identify the key risk drivers on the site.  We then devised a simple pollution control scheme that was robust, but was also proportionate to the risk, and practical to implement.

As a result of our work the project programme was maintained, and the project remains ongoing.
